- New “Aero Hatch” typology combines aerodynamic efficiency with generous interior space
- Simple and intuitive technology focused on everyday usability, with Pleos Connect infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS (AAOS) debuting in a European Hyundai model
Offenbach am Main, April 20, 2026 – Hyundai Motor Europe today introduces IONIQ 3, a fully electric compact hatchback designed to make electric mobility intuitive, comfortable and relevant for everyday European needs. IONIQ 3 combines bold design rooted in Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ philosophy, simple and easy-to-use technology and a spacious, comfortable interior. Embodying the IONIQ lineup’s mission to lead advanced electrification and connected living under Hyundai's vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,’ it is shaped by a design approach that balances simplicity, precision and material authenticity.
IONIQ 3 introduces a new “Aero Hatch” typology with a silhouette optimised for both aerodynamic efficiency and generous interior space. Its low, sleek front-end transitions into a distinctive roofline that runs straight over both front and rear occupants before accelerating downward to merge seamlessly with the rear spoiler. This geometry maximises interior roominess, delivering notable headroom and improved comfort for the rear passengers.

“With IONIQ 3, we are bringing the bold design, driving enjoyment and advanced features of the IONIQ brand to a broader range of customers across Europe,” says Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe. “Built for people's real everyday needs, IONIQ 3 combines an expected segment-leading driving range and aerodynamics with extraordinary levels of space, comfort and practicality. IONIQ 3 also marks the debut of the Pleos Connect infotainment system, delivering sharp graphics, an intuitive user experience and broad customisation options – raising the bar for the segment.
Key highlights:
- New “Aero Hatch” typology delivers a distinctive balance between aerodynamic efficiency and interior space, with an expected class-leading drag coefficient of 0.263
- Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ design language creates strong, precise surfaces, complemented by signature pixel lighting and four central dots referencing the letter “H” in Morse code
- Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) with 400-volt architecture, supporting efficient performance and everyday usability
- Two battery options with projected WLTP range of 344 km (Standard Range), with Long Range version targeting a class-leading range of 496 km
- Fast DC charging from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 29 minutes, complemented by AC charging capability of up to 22 kW
- Cabin offers upper-segment roominess, enabled by a flat-floor layout and “Furnished Space” interior, with genuine five-seat comfort, comfortably accommodating three adults in the rear
- Generous luggage capacity of 441 litres is expected to set the benchmark in the segment and supports everyday practicality, complemented by the integrated Megabox
- Pleos Connect infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS (AAOS), with intuitive displays and seamless connectivity features

How does IONIQ 3 meet the needs of European customers?
IONIQ 3 has been developed to meet the needs of everyday drivers, young families and innovative customers who value functionality as much as style. Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) with a 400-volt electrical architecture, the vehicle delivers a balanced combination of efficiency, driving range and charging capability, designed to support everyday comfort and ease of use. Two battery options are available, offering projected WLTP ranges of 344 km (Standard Range) and 496 km (Long Range), allowing customers to choose the setup that best fits their lifestyle.
What defines the design of IONIQ 3?
IONIQ 3 introduces Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ design language to the compact EV segment. The design follows Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ philosophy, inspired by the raw tension and purity found in steel production. Surfaces are reduced to a few deliberate volumes that create a strong and precise visual impact, reflecting the natural behaviour of sheet metal. Signature pixel lighting elements further reinforce the IONIQ identity, complemented by four central dots referencing the letter “H” in Morse code. Aerodynamic optimisation results in a target drag coefficient of approximately 0.26, supporting efficiency while reinforcing a clear and modern design identity. Customers can personalise their IONIQ 3 with eleven exterior colours, multiple interior schemes, and wheel options from 16- to 19-inch (including N Line variants). The additional IONIQ 3 N Line elevates the standard model with sporty design elements and exclusive touches, creating a bold, dynamic presence.

How does IONIQ 3 make electric technology simple and easy to use?
Technology in IONIQ 3 is designed to simplify daily driving rather than add complexity. It is the first European Hyundai model to feature the Pleos Connect infotainment system, based on Android Automotive OS (AAOS), with 12.9-inch display or 14.6-inch display for intuitive access to vehicle functions, navigation and connectivity. Features such as Hyundai Digital Key 2 enable keyless access via smartphone or wearable devices, while Plug & Charge, an integrated EV route planner and interior and exterior Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality support a seamless electric driving and charging experience. Fast DC charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes 29 minutes under optimal conditions and is complemented by AC charging capability of up to 22 kW.
How does IONIQ 3 deliver interior space and comfort beyond its compact size?
Despite its compact exterior dimensions, IONIQ 3 offers a spacious and flexible interior designed around passenger comfort, following a “Furnished Space” approach where elements are arranged like furniture to create a warm and intuitive living environment. A long wheelbase and flat-floor layout create generous legroom and headroom, while a large luggage compartment increases everyday practicality. The integrated Megabox provides additional, cleverly concealed storage space beneath the trunk floor. Depending on specification, IONIQ 3 offers features such as Relaxation Seats, heated and ventilated seating and carefully selected textile materials inspired by natural landscapes and 1970s Italian furniture design, including recycled and bio-based materials. A BOSE® Premium Sound System, dual-zone automatic climate control and ambient LED lighting complete the refined interior environment. Subtle “Easter egg” details throughout the vehicle add moments of discovery and delight.
How does IONIQ 3 support safety and driver confidence in everyday driving?
IONIQ 3 is equipped with Hyundai’s latest SmartSense advanced driver assistance systems to support safety and reduce driver workload. Key features include Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), Memory Reverse Assist (MRA), Surround View Monitor (SVM) and Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), supported by seven standard airbags.
Projection LED headlamps with Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS) and dynamic welcome lighting further enhance visibility and safety in everyday driving conditions.
How is IONIQ 3 developed for everyday electric mobility in Europe?
IONIQ 3 is designed in Europe and produced at Hyundai Motor Türkiye’s İzmit plant, underlining Hyundai Motor Europe’s commitment to local development and production. With efficient electric powertrains delivering up to 107.8 kW (147 PS) of output and 250 Nm of torque and a top speed of 165 km/h, IONIQ 3 is engineered to fit seamlessly into modern European lifestyles.
