Hyundai Reaffirms Top Safety Standards: IONIQ 9 Receives Five-Star Euro NCAP Rating

Hyundai has once again demonstrated its commitment to customer safety. The Hyundai IONIQ 9, the company’s flagship three-row electric SUV, has been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP. This latest recognition builds on the five-star results previously achieved by the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, underscoring the IONIQ sub-brand’s consistent reputation for safety leadership.

Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) is Europe’s leading independent authority on car safety. Vehicles are tested in four categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, protection of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, and the performance of safety assistance systems. Achieving the top score once again reflects Hyundai’s strong performance in crash protection as well as its comprehensive equipment of driver assistance and accident prevention technologies.
Strong results across all categories
The IONIQ 9 achieved outstanding ratings in all four areas. Particularly notable was its performance in child occupant protection, scoring 87 per cent. In both the frontal offset and side barrier tests, all critical body areas of six- and ten-year-old dummies were well protected, with the SUV earning maximum points. This high standard of child safety played a key role in the overall five-star result.
The flagship model also delivered above-average results in the remaining categories: for adult occupant protection the SUV received 84 per cent, for the availability and performance of safety assistance systems 83 per cent and for the protection of vulnerable road users 77 per cent.
Hyundai SmartSense: Safety made standard
The IONIQ 9 comes equipped with Hyundai SmartSense, the brand’s advanced suite of driver assistance and safety technologies. These systems are designed not just for premium vehicles, but as standard across the Hyundai portfolio – a clear reflection of the brand’s philosophy that maximum safety should be available to all customers.
Key features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2 (FCA 2), Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), and Safe Exit Assist (SEA), among many others. Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), seat belt pre-tensioners in all rows, an active bonnet for pedestrian protection, and Driver Attention Warning (DAW) further contribute to the model’s high safety standards. Together, these technologies help reduce the risk of accidents for both occupants and other road users.
Hyundai INSTER: Four-Star Rating in A-segment
Hyundai’s commitment to safety extends beyond its flagship models. The all-new INSTER, a compact electric SUV in the A-segment, recently achieved a four-star Euro NCAP rating under the latest protocols. Scoring 70 per cent for adult occupant protection, 81 per cent for child occupant protection, 70 per cent for vulnerable road users, and 67 per cent for safety assist technologies, INSTER delivers an excellent level of safety.
Equipped with a wide range of Hyundai SmartSense features – such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), and Safe Exit Warning (SEW) – INSTER demonstrates Hyundai’s determination to offer comprehensive safety across its entire line-up.
