05 Advanced safety & driving assistance features
Beginning with an enhanced collision safety system, Santa Fe prioritises safety with its advanced features. This is achieved through a reinforced vehicle body design and advanced ADAS functions, bolstered by the application of advanced high-strength steel and the integration of hot stamping parts. A comprehensive airbag system, featuring ten strategically placed airbags, including driver’s row knee, row centre side, and second-row side airbags, ensures optimal protection against all-around collisions.
The Smart Sense system sets Santa Fe apart, offering a range of advanced driver assistance systems for heightened safety and convenience in various driving and parking scenarios. These features demonstrate Hyundai’s commitment to providing cutting-edge safety technology.
Available Hyundai Smart Sense active safety and driving assistance features:
Driving safety features are numerous and include the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2 (FCA 2), which not only warns of potential collisions but also automatically assists with braking. The system incorporates Driver Steering Assist, Auto Evasive Steering Assist, and Evasive Steering Assist to manage various scenarios, such as Junction Turning, Junction Crossing, Lane-Change Oncoming, Direct Oncoming, and Lane-Change Side.
The Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) automatically engages braking when the risk of a collision with vehicles in the blind spot is detected during lane changes or forward driving. Additionally, BCA activates when the driver oversees an approaching vehicle when leaving from a parallel parking spot.
Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) provides warnings and automatic steering assistance to prevent unintentional lane departures, while Safe Exit Assist (SEA) keeps doors locked and alerts occupants if a collision risk with approaching vehicles is detected while the car is stationary, allowing for safer exits. The Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) warns of speeding by utilising a front view camera or navigation information, enabling drivers to adjust their speed according to road limits during operation.
The Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system analyses the driver’s attention level, issuing a warning for low attention levels and recommending breaks when needed. Additionally, it alerts the driver when the leading vehicle departs during a stop. The Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) displays a rear-side image when the turn signal is activated, providing enhanced visibility during lane changes.
High Beam Assist (HBA) automatically toggles between high and low beams based on ambient light conditions and the presence of oncoming or preceding vehicles, ensuring optimal visibility. The array of driving convenience features includes Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA-2), and Lane Following Assist 2 (LFA 2), contributing to a seamless and stress-free driving experience.
Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) helps to keep backseat passengers safe. If the engine is turned off and the vehicle is exited, the system provides an audio alert and a message in the cluster to check the rear seat for forgotten passengers or objects. ROA significantly reduces the risk of heatstroke and other dangers associated with leaving children or pets in a hot car.
In the realm of parking safety, Santa Fe incorporates features like Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Distance Warning (PDW), Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-R), Rear View Monitor (RVM), and Surround View Monitor (SVM). These features collectively provide warnings and automatic interventions to prevent collisions while parking, ensuring a safer and more convenient parking experience for drivers.
Santa Fe takes parking convenience to the next level with Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), enabling remote parking or exiting parking spots. This system leverages the vehicle’s sensors to automatically handle steering, acceleration, deceleration, and shifting. Moreover, it features a Remote Operation function using the smart key, allowing drivers to control the vehicle from outside when necessary.
06 Ride and handling enhancements
Santa Fe blends comfort and stability for an unparalleled driving experience. The chassis performance is finely tuned to provide a comfortable yet stable ride, ensuring a premium feel for families on the go.
One of the standout features contributing to this performance is the application of Frequency Sensitive Control (FSC) dampers, improving ride comfort while keeping body control at a higher level.
Hyundai focused on improving the on-centre feeling and reducing the pulling sensitivity by increasing the yoke load through a strategic adjustment in the stiffness of the yoke spring. The front bump stopper plays a crucial role in improving pitching characteristics on bumps and rough roads, as well as enhancing handling performance by increasing its length to allow for more body control and prevent abrupt reactions in the case of long wheel travel events (e.g., speed bumps).
The commitment to ride comfort continues with the implementation of hydro bushes at the front and rear subframes. These bushes effectively reduce road noise and improve overall ride comfort. Additionally, the rear stabiliser bar bush has been upgraded to a non-steel insert bonding type, further contributing to an enhanced driving experience.
Santa Fe boasts an advanced Drive Traction System whose system intelligently controls the driving force of the front and rear wheels, adapting to various driving conditions such as snow, rain, and sharp curves. The Terrain Mode, part of this system, empowers drivers to select specific settings for snow, mud, and sand, with real-time status updates displayed on the cluster and AVN.
Aerodynamics play a crucial role in Santa Fe’s overall performance. Hyundai has prioritised cooling resistance improvement by incorporating active air flaps into the front bumper. The exterior design is crafted to optimise airflow surrounding the body while driving, contributing to both aesthetics and functionality. The underbody has also been optimised, extending the centre floor undercover to improve overall airflow.
With its cutting-edge features and attention to detail, Santa Fe redefines the standards of premium family SUVs, offering a comfortable and exhilarating driving experience for every journey.
07 Streamlined powertrain line-up
Santa Fe is available in two powerful engine options, each designed to cater to different preferences and driving needs.
The 1.6 Turbo Hybrid variant boasts a maximum engine output of 215 PS and 367 Nm of torque. With this powertrain, Santa Fe can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h.
The 1.6 Turbo Plug-in Hybrid model offers a maximum engine output of 253 PS and the same amount of torque as the hybrid variant, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in an impressive 9.3 seconds and achieving a maximum speed of 180 km/h.
Hyundai’s commitment to hybrid technology is evident in Santa Fe’s advanced features. The Hybrid Starter Generator (HSG) incorporates a new cooling design and a high-efficiency permanent magnet to enhance overall performance. The Traction Motor is designed to maximise efficiency and performance, ensuring a smooth driving experience.
Furthermore, Santa Fe introduces Regenerative Braking with Paddle, allowing drivers in ECO or SMART mode to adjust regenerative braking in three steps through the paddle shift. The Regenerative Stability Control (RSC) function ensures regenerative braking is maintained even in low-friction sections with wheel slip. The Smart Regenerative Braking feature takes efficiency and convenience to the next level by automatically adjusting the regenerative braking stage based on forward traffic flow and navigation map information while coasting.
With these state-of-the-art technologies, Santa Fe stands as a symbol of innovation, providing a driving experience for families seeking performance, efficiency, and eco-conscious design in their SUVs.
